Why Alexa?
I often get asked for additional technology to support ageing parents. Here are some examples of how Amazon’s Echo Show can help:
Address isolation using video calls
Video is much better than a phone call. Just make sure that you’re added as a contact with a nickname.
Call out in case of emergency
Once your name has been added, your parent can call out ‘Call John‘ even if they’re on the ground, unable to move.
Remember to take medication
At your parent’s home, simply say “Alexa, remind me to take Anadin every day at 10am“.
Make contact if they can’t be reached by phone
Use your own Echo, or an Alexa app installed on your phone, to ‘Drop in on Mum‘. You’ll be connected immediately if you’ve permission on your parent’s device.
Monitor unwelcome visitors
The Ring doorbell connects beautifully to the Echo Show – ‘Alexa, show me the front door‘. It just needs the same power that goes to your existing door bell.
Ease of use
Tethered to the wall by a power connection, the Alexa Show is robust and easy-to-use. Highly recommended!
